POSITION OVERVIEW

The Landscape Designer/Architect is responsible for creating innovative, functional, and visually appealing outdoor spaces for high-end residential and commercial clients. This role requires a balance of artistic design, technical expertise, and project oversight. The ideal candidate will also bring account management experience - enabling them to communicate effectively with clients, manage expectations, and follow projects from concept through completion. This role involves site analysis, design creation, estimating, and active coordination with both clients and installation teams to ensure high-quality outcomes and exceptional customer satisfaction.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES

Design & Planning

  • Conduct comprehensive site assessments, including grading, lighting, drainage, and existing vegetation or structures.
  • Develop detailed, aesthetically driven design plans using CAD or landscape design software.
  • Select appropriate plants, hardscape elements, and materials that meet both the client's vision and site conditions.
  • Ensure designs comply with local codes, zoning, and sustainability best practices.
  • Present and refine designs based on client feedback.

Client & Project Oversight

  • Serve as the primary design consultant for clients throughout the project lifecycle.
  • Estimate project costs and work closely with sales and production teams to align scope and budget.
  • Prepare proposals and contracts, obtain signatures, and collect deposits.
  • Oversee project progress to ensure timely, on-budget, and quality execution.
  • Conduct client walkthroughs, manage change orders, and close out projects professionally.

Communication & Collaboration

  • Maintain strong, ongoing relationships with clients and internal teams.
  • Collaborate closely with crew leaders, project managers, and subcontractors to translate design intent into field execution.
  • Capture and document material usage, labor, and site conditions accurately.
  • Provide regular updates to company leadership and flag potential issues early.X

EDUCATION, KNOWLEDGE AND EXPERIENCE

  • Associate or bachelor's degree in landscape design, Landscape Architecture, or Horticulture.
  • 3–5 years of relevant experience in residential or commercial landscape design.
  • Prior experience in account or client management within the landscaping or construction industry.
  • Strong plant knowledge and understanding of hardscape construction techniques.

Licensing & Continuing Education

  • Maintain a valid PA DOT Medical Card and applicable licenses.
  • Pursue continuing education in design, horticulture, and project management as required.

SKILLS AND QUAILIFACTIONS

  • Prior experience in account or client management within the landscaping or construction industry.
  • Proficient in design software such as AutoCAD, Dynascape, or SketchUp.
  • Excellent interpersonal, organizational, and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to manage multiple projects and meet deadlines independently.
  • Valid driver's license with a clean record.

WORKING CONDITIONS

  • Ability to work outdoors in varying weather conditions and terrain.
  • Must be able to lift up to 50 lbs and perform occasional physical labor during site visits.
  • Follow all safety protocols and report hazards or incidents immediately.
